Dr. Barbara Esch: An Introduction to Echoic Skills in Early Speech Learners

ABSTRACT

Dr. Barbara Esch, ABAi VB-Sig Exceptional Scholar, behavior analyst and speech language pathologist, has found that persons who have responsibility for assessing and teaching beginner vocal-verbal skills to learners need instruction in when and what to assess in beginning speech skills. During the one-hour lecture portion of this event, Dr. Esch will review the vocal-verbal skills that describe early speech learners, the three levels of echoic skills in early speech learners and how/if the Early Echoic Skills Assessment (EESA) is relevant for each, treatment targets for three levels of echoic skills in early speech learners, and more. Dr. Esch will also provide in-depth information about the Early Echoic Skills Assessment (Revised) and the answers to frequently asked questions. Following the 1-hour presentation, a graduate student will interview Dr. Esch and then the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions.

Target Audience: Persons who have responsibility for assessing and teaching beginner vocal-verbal skills to learners and/or professionals for whom the topic is within their scope of practice. We welcome students and others who are also interested in the topic to join us.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this event participants will be able to:

1) Select three levels of echoic skills in early speech learners
2) Identify information that can be obtained from the EESA-R assessment
