Glossary of ABAC Terms

ABAC Learning Management System (LMS): The ABAC Learning Management System is a third party software application designed to deliver, monitor, and manage ABAC Programs.The LMS is accessed by logging into the ABAC Website.

ABAC Website: The ABAC Website address is http://www.abacnj.com

Attendance Verification: Attendance Verification is one of the ABAC continuing education and professional development requirements. Learners must verify their attendance for Live Events or Courses by successfully submitting a Code-Submission Form.

Code: A Code is a word or letter number string, typically six to eight symbols. Codes are shown as well as read to Learners during Live Events and Courses. Three to five unique Codes are shown during a 2-4 hour Live Event presentation. During Courses, the number of Codes depends on the number of Videos presented and/or the length of the presentation. The Moderator of the Live Event reads and/or spells each Code for Learners during the time the Code is presented on the screen. The Moderator also reminds Learners to write down the Code. 

Code-Submission Form: A Code-Submission Form is used to verify Learner attendance. ABAC includes a Code-Submission Form in each continuing education and professional development Program. Code-Submission Forms are built using the ABAC LMS quiz function.. To complete the Code-Submission Form, Learners must select all of  the Codes that were presented during the Live Event or Course. 

Course Catalog: A Course Catalog is a list of Courses that are open for Registration to the general public. 

Course Content: Course Content includes the Video(s),  Handouts, Test Questions, and other resources that were either created for the Course or derived from the Live Event and compiled for use in a Course. Most of the Content included in Courses is Required Course Content.

Course: A Course is an asynchronous online learning experience which grants credit in the form of continuing education credit hours, continuing education units (CEUs), or professional development hours. Courses are accessed on-demand via an assigned Portal found within the ABAC Learning Management System.    

Course Title: A Course Title is the name of the Course as agreed upon by ABAC and the Presenter(s). The Course Title may differ from the Live Event Title.

Course Intro: A Course Intro is a short video produced by ABAC that introduces the Learner to the Course requirements for credit, the Course copyright information, and may include Presenter(s) biographies, Course Title, and other information relevant to the Course. 

Course Outro: A Course Outro is a short video produced by ABAC that demonstrates how to access the post-test and how the Learner will verify their attendance.

Fidelity-Based Training Program: A Fidelity-Based Training Program is an intensive training opportunity in which Learners participate in weekly meetings with a small cohort led by the Trainer. Currently ABAC hosts one Fidelity-Based Training Program (with additional training programs in development). Both informal evaluations of performance based on Learner verbal reports and formal evaluation of Learner fidelity are used throughout the Program. Participants are required to employ the procedures, appraise their performance, and submit video or other evidence of implementation to be evaluated by the Trainer.

Handout: A Handout is text-based or graphic-based original authorship material that is created by a Presenter. The Presenter permits ABAC to give Handouts to Learners in the form of .PDF and/or MSWord documents. Handouts may be reference materials or worksheets that Learners use during the Live Event or Course. The Handouts provided at Live Events may be included in a Course at the Presenter’s discretion. When a Presenter gives permission for ABAC to use Handouts in a Live Event or in a Course, ABAC will upload the Handouts into the ABAC Website and create a link to the Handouts for Learners within the Portal. Learners can then download the Handouts from the Portal. 

Learner: A Learner is an individual who is enrolled in a Program. 

Learning Objective: A Learning Objective is a specific skill Learners are expected to be able to demonstrate following participation in an ABAC Program.

Learning Outcome: A Learning Outcome is the expected overall performance across all skills (Learning Objectives) for the entire ABAC Program.

Live Event: A Live Event is an synchronous learning experience that occurs via the internet during which the Presenter(s) and Learners in attendance interact in real time. Live Events grants credit in the form of continuing education credit hours, continuing education units (CEUs), or professional development hours. During a Live Event, the Presenter's video camera is on while they are speaking. In addition, using a screen share feature, the Presenter will share slides and during the Live event, Learners can reference handouts if the Presenter has provided them to ABAC to distribute to Learners. Generally speaking, Live Events are all lecture-based presentations- the difference between them is how the Presenter chooses to interact with the Learners. At a minimum, all Live Events include opportunities for Learners to ask the Presenter questions and make comments to each other and to the Presenter within the chat feature. Interactions may include the Presenter asking Learners knowledge-based or survey questions, Learners responding to Presenter questions, Learners asking the Presenter questions, and Learners commenting on something the Presenter said. Live Events are presented using a third-party online meeting platform and are recorded using the third-party online meeting recording feature. 

Portal: A Portal allows a Learner to view a live presentation, access the recording of a live presentation, access Content, participate in a Fidelity-Based Training Program and more. For continuing education eligible events, Learners will also take a post-test, and verify their attendance in the Portal. The Portal is built within the ABAC Learning Management System which is accessed via the ABAC Website.

Post-Live Event Recording Access Period: ABAC posts the Recording the day after the Live Event for a limited period of time. In 2020 this time period increased from five to ten days. Beginning 2022 the Post-Live Event Recording Access Period will be 14-days. 

Program: A Program is a Live Event, a Course, a series of Live Events or Courses, and/or a Fidelity-Based Training Program. 

Recording: A Recording is a audio/visual file (i.e. mp4) and accompanying text files (transcripts or closed captioning files) generated by the third-party online meeting platform used to host Live Events. Recordings are available following the Live Event during the Post-Live Event Recording Access Period.

Registration: Registration is the process by which a purchaser selects a Live Event or Course and assigns a Learner to that Live Event or Course. After providing the name(s) of the Learners, the purchaser pays for the Registration online via the ABAC Website. A Learner may be the purchaser but does not have to be. A Learner may be manually enrolled by an ABAC employee if the Learner is part of a large group whose Registration is paid for by a company or organization. 

Required Course Content: Required Course Content is text-based or audio/visual-based Content that must be viewed by the Learner to demonstrate mastery via a post-test.  

Test Questions: A Test Question is original authorship that is written by the Presenter and which is used to evaluate whether the Learner demonstrates a set of defined skills. 

Trainer: A Trainer is a person who leads a Fidelity-Based Training Program. The Trainer leads the Fidelity-Based Training Program cohorts of Learners, assesses Learner performance, and provides performance feedback. 

Video: A Video is an audio-visual Recording of a Live Event that ABAC edits to include appropriate branding, a Course Intro and Course Outro, remove long pauses from breaks included in the Live Event, adjust the volume, and make other small edits. A Video is included in Required Course Content.
